Most NAS devices are Linux based and are a very cost effective way of using more than the maximum number of connections (Viewing Stations) allowed by Windows (XP Home=5, XP Pro=10, Vista=10, Windows 7=20)
with the 5 Minute Photo Loader/Viewer Software (Version 6.1 Pro or greater).
With our LinuxInTheMiddle solution the 5 Minute Photo database and Viewing Folder is pre-configured and setup on a Linux based computer/device and shared as EventView (eliminating the security/permission settings on the Loader/Server computer).
The Viewing Stations are configured with name of the Linux device as the Server name. Viewing files and Database are accessed from Linux device rather than from the Server where the Loader is run. The Loader is
configured to use a Custom Path for the Viewing folder and points to the Linux device.
This eliminates the need for a Windows Server 2003/2008 based O/S on the Loader/Server when using more than the maximum number of connections (Viewing Stations) allowed by Windows (XP Home=5, XP Pro=10, Vista=10, Windows 7=20), since
Linux doesnt require CALs (Client Access License) for each connection.
Note: Performance of overall system is dependent on speed/power of Linux device, Loader/Server computer, Viewing Stations and the network components.
